Tuesday, June 22, 2021

***THE APPLICATION WINDOW HAS CLOSED.  If you have any questions, please email wff@yale.edu.***

We are soliciting nominations (including self-nominations) for fellows for Yale’s 2021-2022 Public Voices Fellowship. The fellowship, first piloted at Yale in 2011 as a collaboration between the Women Faculty Forum and the OpEd Project, will celebrate its 10th anniversary in 2021-2022.

With a mission to diversify public discourse, the Public Voices team is widely recognized for its expertise in facilitation around leadership, diversity and inclusion and how the application of these skills can correct historical imbalances in access and representation. The Fellowship facilitates intellectual and scholarly diversity, and establishes community among its fellows. Each participant will build rich, collaborative and interdisciplinary relationships. Past fellows continue to collaborate and support each other years after their own fellowships. While the short-term outcome of the program is in producing op-eds, the program has had a hand in elevating the thought leadership of Yale’s women faculty and faculty of color.

The fellowship’s impact on former fellows has been powerful and lasting, positively advancing career trajectories, satisfaction and retention at all levels. It goes without saying that the fellows chosen for this competitive program are international leaders in their fields. The program has been overwhelmingly popular and counts among its alums 142 Yale fellows, who have produced over 526 publications and media successes while participating in the program, and many more since.

The 2021-2022 year will follow the same format as in the past, though much of it will move to Zoom. The year-long program includes:

  • Four sessions centered around expanding thinking and amplifying expertise. The anticipated dates for this year’s program are:

  1. Knowledge: September 22, 23, & 24, 2021 (10am-1:30pm)
  2. Connection: Friday, November 5, 2021 (10am-5pm)
  3. Contagion: Friday, February 25, 2022 (10am-5pm)
  4. Legacy: Friday, April 22, 2022 (10am-5pm)
  • Dedicated editors (top journalists) provide, hands-on, one-on-one support/editing/coaching

  • Monthly calls with idea leaders & media insiders (past guests: TED, NYT, CNN, Wikipedia)

  • Ongoing mentoring (follow-up access to our journalist mentors)

Nomination process:
