GISday Conference at Yale Keynote Lecture: Deirdre Dalpiaz Bishop

Tuesday, November 12, 2019

Don’t  miss this great opportunity on November 13th, 2019 at 4:30pm to learn behind the scenes about the Census 2020 geospatial systems. As U.S. Census Bureau Deputy Director and COO Dr Ron Jarmin stated “decennial census is a foundational aspect of our democracy. It determines the apportionment of seats and the Congress across the states. It allocates nearly 900 billion dollars in federal funding to local communities each year. So, it is important the U.S. Census Bureau does a good job because they have only one try every ten years.”

Find out about the critical role GIS plays in this enormous task, and how Deirdre Dalpiaz Bishop, Chief of the US Census Bureau Geography Division, is leading the 2020 GIS endeavor.

Ms. Bishop was recently featured in the book “Women in GIS.” She was three times honored with the Census Bureau’s Bronze Medal Award.  Deirdre is the President of the U.S. National Section of the Pan American Institute of Geography and History.  She is Head of the United States Delegation for the United Nations Committee of Experts on Global Geospatial Information Management.
